Rooted very much in a vintage work boot inspiration, we have taken three perennially popular boots and upgraded them for the new season. the rugged 7-tie boot has a distinctive and very commercial beige upper stitch, the tall lace boot gives a sleek yet strong tapered look and the range also features a very fashionable pull-on buckle boot. We have made all the styles available in a new leather called Bigfoot, in either tan or brown; likewise each product comes complete with a characterful McMartens tartan lining.

The tribes that champion Dr Martens all push the boundries; with the Atom collection we are doing the same. Taking a lead from our highly popular Stussy collaboration of 2010, the sole is not welted like the classic 1460, and the light canvas upper compliments this new approach. Here, we have extended the appeal with the introduction of a very current hi-shoe style which utilises striking mesh panels on top of a new comfort-driven sole. The ritual of breaking in a pair of Dr Martens is part of DM's folk law. A solution for getting from box fresh to broken in in the shortest possible time has been the Holy Grail for the last 50 years. First the leather is milled which involves putting the leather into a drum that is turned repeatedly, breaking up the surface grain of leather to make it softer. Th quarter panels are then rolled and flexed by hand and hammer. This is repeated on the vamp (toe), replicating effect on the leather created by the movement of the foot whilst walking. Fot the finishing touches, the back loop is abraded and the upper is buffed, exposing the colour of the metal eyelets. The sole edges are then finished in a way that removes the neat edges. Combined, these unique range of processes allow us to take a new pair of 1460 8-eye boots and accelerate the breaking in process. Broken In from day one.

These are a direct replica of the very first boots to roll of the production line on 1 April 1960, handcrafted in the original factory (Wollaston, Northamptonshire, England) by cobblers using the original construction techniques. The product, made on the original "59" last, features narrower horizontal tread bars, criss-crossed coring bars, a darker sole, a storm welt bound together on the lateral side, small indentations left on the welt by the original stitching machine, no top collar binding and runs into the eye stay above the top eyelet. This is where it all began.
