For many of us, the next few weeks are set to be very busy, with work parties, New Years Eve and other festive events to attend. All this merriment can take its toll, especially on our feet. To help you survive this party season, and to help keep you up on the dance floor (or table wherever takes your fancy!) we offer a few nuggets of wisdom to see you through and ensure your shoes don't give you any bother while you're enjoying yourself.
Buying the right size shoe
This seems fairly obvious, but knowing your exact shoe size is important when purchasing a new pair. This isn't just referring to the length of the foot, but also the width and even the arching of the foot. Knowing your exact measurements means you can get the right size and also the right style of shoe that compliments your foot shape perfectly. We recommend getting your feet measured by a professional shoe retailer, as this will give you a more accurate measurement.
Sometimes when wearing heels, the feet can swell. If you are aware that you are prone to this happening to you, try and buy a size that's around half a size larger than you would normally buy. This will give you the extra space and comfort you need.
Top Tip: Freezing your shoes before you wear them, this causes the shoe to form around your feet when you put them on and ensure maximum comfort – they just might be a little cold when you first pop them on!
Wear your shoes in
If you've decided to splash out on a new pair of heels or some fashionable flats for a party (and why wouldn't you?), rather than wearing them straight out the box, you should take some time to wear them in. This will allow the material to stretch and conform to your foot shape, giving you a more comfortable fit when it comes to wearing them to an event. Wear them around the house, cooking dinner, answering the door to the postman – wherever and whenever!
Pack for an emergency
Before you head out for a night, there are a few things you ought to consider packing into your handbag, just in case you run into some shoe related difficulties. Gel foot cushions are a great way to add some extra padding to your shoes and prevent rubbing. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes so can fit in just about anywhere in the shoe and fit perfectly into your bag!
If you're planning on taking a handbag or clutch bag out with you, slipping in a pair of emergency flats might turn out to be the best thing you've ever done. Fold up shoes are especially good for taking to a party and will fit snugly into any bag regardless of size, and come in a range of styles to compliment your outfit if you decide to give the heels a rest for a while. If you're in need of a bag for your party this season, we have a wide selection available including our Ruby Shoo bag range!
Finally, it's always advisable to pack a few plasters into your bag, in case you do feel any irritation throughout the night, these should stop any pain and prevent any further blisters from occurring.
We hope these tips will come in handy this party season. We have a wide selection of party shoes from brands such as Ruby Shoo, Van Dal, Gerry Weber and Lotus to name a few. If you have any other tips or tricks you swear by on a big night out, post them in the comments below!
